Exo 35:5 Take from among you an offering to the Lord; everyone who has the impulse in his heart, let him give his offering to the Lord; gold and silver and brass; 6 And blue and purple and red and the best linen and goats' hair, 7 And sheepskins coloured red, and leather, and hard wood, 8 And oil for the lights, and spices for the holy oil and for the sweet perfumes for burning. 9 And beryls and jewels to be cut for the ephod and for the priest's bag. 10 And let every wise-hearted man among you come and make whatever has been ordered by the Lord;
“And let every wise-hearted man among you come and make whatever has been ordered by the Lord”
From this passage we can conclude that it is `wisdom` to do as God has ordered.
Therefore the converse is true: Not to do as God has ordered, must then be `foolish`.
Psa 19:7 The law of the Lord is good, giving new life to the soul: the witness of the Lord is certain, giving wisdom to the foolish. 8 The orders of the Lord are right, making glad the heart: the rule of the Lord is holy, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, and has no end; the decisions of the Lord are true and full of righteousness. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even than much shining gold; sweeter than the dropping honey.
How often do we `chase` after the wrong lures?
It’s nice to have ‘stuff’. It’s nice to be able to buy things and enjoy life, without a care about finances or the like.
But is it good? Is it what is required?
Pro 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the start of knowledge: but the foolish have no use for wisdom and teaching. 8 My son, give ear to the training of your father, and do not give up the teaching of your mother: 9 For they will be a crown of grace for your head, and chain-ornaments about your neck.
I am convinced that this is the best `bling` we can hang around our necks, the best `cap` to wear.
I call it, the `bling` of the Lord.
Skilful living is the key then.
Not just living haphazardly, hoping that things would work out. We have to plan, we have to do research, we have to find and listen to Godly counsel.
Hoping that things would turn out well is not faith. Faith requires knowledge, understanding, wisdom, and effort.
Sitting on the couch, watching TV hoping to find work and that God would deliver an envelope filled with cash at the door is foolishness.
Preparing my CV, sending it out to the employment agencies, knocking on doors of business, accepting the tasks offered, proves my willingness and obedience, it shows that I am ready to be appointed.
Pro 9:12 If you are wise, you shall be wise for yourself; but if you scorn, you alone shall bear it.
Faith and Works
An old boatman painted the word "faith" on one oar of his boat and "works" on the other. He was asked his reason for this. In answer, he slipped the oar with "faith" into the water and rowed. The boat, of course, made a very tight circle. Returning to the dock, the boatman then said, "Now, let's try 'works’ without 'faith’ and see what happens." The oar marked "works" was put in place and the boatman began rowing with just the "works" oar. Again the boat went into a tight circle but in the opposite direction.
When the boatman again returned to the wharf, he interpreted his experiment in these strong and convincing words, "You see, to make a passage across the lake, one needs both oars working simultaneously in order to keep the boat in a straight and narrow way. If one does not have the use of both oars, he makes no progress either across the lake nor as a Christian”.
