How do I (2)
How do I get assurance that I will make it? That I will attain a measure of success? That my relationships will prosper?
How do I get a good night’s rest?
Surely we all would like to live a life, being able to overcome and deal with life’s adversities and challenges.
1. Pro 4:1 Sons, hear the instruction of a father, and listen in order to know understanding. 2 For I give you good teaching; do not forsake my law.
· Cling to the teaching and the guidance of the Word. Understand and accept that the guidance of the Word is our life-map. To guide and encourage and instruct. Not to destroy and break down.
2. Pro 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding; forget not; nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
· The Bible calls a man without wisdom “a fool” Every time I read this I recall B. A. Baracus ( Mr T ) from the A-team, calling his enemies “fool” and then he would give them a knockout punch. I surely do not want to go through life being called “fool” and the receive another “punch” from life. I want to live wisely. Counting my days, never allowing the sun to set on my anger. Laying up treasures in heaven. Expecting the day when I would hear “well done, good and faithful servant”
3. Pro 4:10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many.
· One thing I definitely do not want to do is have my life end before it’s time. I want to live as long as possible, I want to achieve, I want to establish, I want to leave a legacy.
· Following the Word and applying the principles and precepts in my life, surely will then ensure that I will not leave and graduate, before I have not fulfilled my personal project.
4. Pro 4:12 When you go, your steps shall not be narrowed, and when you run, you shall not stumble. 13 Take fast hold of instruction; do not let go; keep her; for she is your life.
· Instruction and instructors are their to help me and guide me and equip me. I remember my career in Law enforcement and doing Counter Insurgency duties. During training phases I really did not like the PT, the mud, the tumbles, the pain the tiredness. But. When adversity came, when the bullets went flying, I appreciated that training and sincerely wished that I trained harder and more. I actually wanted the instructor to “help” me some more.
· Cling to the quality teachings from the Word, live it and receive the Godly results it promised.
5. Pro 4:14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not into the way of evil. 15 Avoid it; do not pass by it; turn from it, and pass on! 16 For they do not sleep, except when they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away unless they cause some to fall.
· Evil works and plans, may seem to have it’s reward in the short term, but in the long run, we will all have to pay our dues. What purpose does a short span of reward, gained this way have, when measured against eternity.
· My eternal reward should determine my short term effort.
6. Pro 4:18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.
· The ‘perfect day’ that should be our goal, and on the way, we should walk in the light. The light that guides and protect. The perfect day that will produce the perfect reward.
7. Pro 4:23 Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
· The importance of the stuff that I keep in the hidden chambers of my heart can never be underplayed. What I hide and keep in there, will determine the quality of life that I live.
How do I get? How do I achieve? How do I prosper?
By getting wisdom and understanding. God’s wisdom and understanding. That’s how.
