Project Killie: From the bottom of the pit to the top of the mountain!
Hab 2:1 I will stand on my watch and set myself on the tower, and will watch to see what He will say to me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved. 2 And Jehovah answered me and said, Write the vision, and make it plain on the tablets, that he who reads it may run. 3 For the vision is still for an appointed time, but it speaks to the end, and it does not lie. Though it lingers, wait for it; because it will surely come. It will not tarry. 4 Behold, the soul of him is lifted up, and is not upright; but the just shall live by his faith.
Introduction:
Sometimes we experience too much of life, it overwhelms us and tries to drown us.
In this process, some lose hope and vision and they end up using alternatives to help them cope. Drugs, alcohol and any other type of escape from the reality of the world.
Perhaps, when at such a low place, the bottom of the pit, all it takes is a hand that reaches out and says, take hold, I`ll help you up and out. Together we will walk and climb and face the challenges, until we reach the top of the mountain.
We are involved with a restoration centre at Addicts Against Drugs – Walking with Winners, in Walkerville, to the south of Johannesburg, Gauteng Aouth Africa.
During a discussion between Pastor Dave Barber, the Director at the facility and myself, an idea started to run at great speed through my head.
We were talking about motorcycles and off-road adventure trips.
a Concept is born:
That evening, as I tried to fall asleep, the whole concept came alive.
I am a believer, I believe in Jer 29:11 I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. 12 Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you. 13 You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your heart.
I believe that the Spirit of God gave me clarity:
Project Killie (Kilimanjaro). From the bottom of the pit to the top of the mountain.
Take six recovering addicts, put them on adventure bikes, ride with them to Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya and climb the mountain with them.
Take six astute businessmen, put them on adventure bikes, let of each them `adopt` an `addict` and mentor him all the way there and back.
In doing this, men will learn how to overcome. They will learn how to adapt to challenges, they will attempt to do what only few have done before and they will conquer.
They will teach each other and they will learn from each other. They will gain valuable knowledge and insight. They will come closer to creation and in that, they will come closer to their God.
The plan:
September/August 2011
Six recovering addicts and six businessmen on bikes. Myself and Pastor Dave on bikes to accompany and assist and guide.
We will travel on the bikes via Mozambique to Kenya, Mount Kilimanjaro, we will climb Killie and then we will return to Johannesburg via Zimbabwe. a Round trip on the bikes of about 6400 Km.
This trip will take approx three to four weeks.
During this trip and as we build up to it, we will film every aspect, film crews will accompany us and the whole trip will be documented for Television broadcast in the form of a documentary and or a reality show. To show the world that the scourge of addiction can be conquered and it can be conquered well.
a Film crew, doctor and maintenance crew will accompany us in at least four back-up vehicles.
All the bikers will be equipped with on-board cameras, they will have access to internet facilities via satellite and we each will run a daily “blog” while on the trip – an interactive set-up for those who have taken an interest at home, to follow the adventure and the thoughts of the guys on the trip.
In all: 14 Bikes, 4-5 vehicles and 26 souls.
Provision:
Php 4:19 And with all his abundant wealth through Christ Jesus, my God will supply all your needs. 20 To our God and Father be the glory forever and ever! Amen.
