Psa 78:5 For He set up a testimony in Jacob, and ordered a Law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should teach them to their sons; 6 so that the generation to come might know; sons shall be born, and they shall arise and tell their sons, 7 so that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His Commandments;
Alexander Maclaren stated: "Paul felt that, if he was to give the Corinthians what they needed, he must refuse to give them what they wanted, and while he crossed their wishes he was consulting their necessities
Paul determined to know nothing but Jesus, and to know everything in Jesus, and Jesus in everything.
Do not begin your building at the second floor windows. Put in your foundations first and be sure that they are well laid. Let the sacrifice of Christ in its application to the individual and his sins always remain the basis of all that you say and do.
Then, when that foundation is laid, exhibit to your heart's content the application of Christianity and its social aspects. But be sure that the beginning of them all is the work of Christ for the individual sinful soul, and the acceptance of that work by personal faith."
An architect is a master builder. He imagines a building in its totality. However, he realizes that his first consideration must be the ground on which it is to stand; it must have a solid foundation.
Of course, no one can live in a house that consists only of its foundation. A superstructure is needed. But without a proper foundation the superstructure will not stand.
2Pe 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 according as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who has called us to glory and virtue, 4 through which He has given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, so that by these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Have you ever watched a symphony orchestra as a performance is about to begin?
The musicians sit and stand about, strumming on strings, blowing into horns, beating on drums. There is a lot of noise, but no music. Then the conductor enters. He walks to his podium and steps up onto it. His eye sweeps the scene before him-all the musicians and all their instruments. He lifts his baton, pauses there for a moment, then he gives the downbeat. Instantly there is music; all instruments blend into one harmonious whole.
Our human spirits are a lot like symphony orchestras. Within us there may be discordant elements, warring factions that pull this way or that, and we are out of focus, out of tune-we are just not together within. As an orchestra needs a master control, so do we. When we turn the whole focus of our attention to our Lord and acknowledge that He is in command, our lives will produce beautiful music music.
