Is there anybody out there who may feel like this today?
Missing a loved one, desperate to hear a word of comfort, to see a sign that the heartache and the longing will soon come to and end.
Some of us may be struggling with coming to terms, that someone we loved has left us, something we cherished have been taken away from us, a feeling that our lives have fallen apart completely.
People try to comfort with words, words that just ring empty and hollow, no matter how well it is meant to be.
Your soul cries out Lord, Lord!
This is how the Psalmist begins to comfort himself:
Psa 119:87 They've pushed and pushed--they never let up-- but I haven't relaxed my grip on your counsel. 88 In your great love revive me so I can alertly obey your every word. 89 What you say goes, GOD, and stays, as permanent as the heavens. 90 Your truth never goes out of fashion; it's as up-to-date as the earth when the sun comes up.
Instead of focussing on his heartache and the circumstance, he focuses on the promise of God.
God`s Word is final, it is the `yes and amen` in every situation.
He never misses one of our cries, He never ignores our pleas for comfort, He will never leave us to stand-alone. He is the man with you, in the Lion’s den.
Psa 3:3 But you, GOD, shield me on all sides; You ground my feet, you lift my head high; 4 With all my might I shout up to GOD, His answers thunder from the holy mountain. 5 I stretch myself out. I sleep. Then I'm up again--rested, tall and steady,
Psa 119:76 Oh, love me--and right now!--hold me tight! just the way you promised. 77 Now comfort me so I can live, really live; your revelation is the tune I dance to.
Like the worship song says: “You are the lover of my soul”
Today and every other day, heartache and longing and a broken-ness might want to overtake us, but we have to know and we have to cling to the comfort of knowing, that there is One who loves us – loves us so much, he gave everything to rescue us.
Like Hosea, who paid money to buy back his own wife, who endured the ridicule of the people to retain his wife, so God will endure on our behalf.
We were bought with a price; we will not be discarded for nothing.
